From 1993 - 1998, Sharon provided holistic health and wellness coaching services to individuals, families, and groups, focusing on nutritional approaches to chronic illness management and natural approaches to menopause.

In 1998, she started a business called “Health Positive!". Over the next 12 years, Sharon wrote, self-published, and sold two textbooks on holistic pathology and pioneered selling more than 40 online CE courses for nurses, licensed massage therapists, and bodyworkers.

She served on the CE approval committee of the National Certification Board of Massage Therapists and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and had a “laptop lifestyle,” running her business from home in Kansas, then in Hawaii, and finally in Arkansas.

In 2010, Sharon sold her business. For the next few years, she studied the shamanic arts with the Four Winds Society and studied with some of the world’s top online business mentors. She translated their business approaches into holistic entrepreneurial nursing practices. She also owned and managed an Airbnb vacation home in Arkansas and a small organic farmstead in Indiana during those years.

In 2012, Sharon founded HolisticNursingCE.com, a nonprofit organization that provided holistic nursing CE courses online. She served as its Executive Director for 11 years.

In 2015, she helped found another nonprofit, the Hawaii Yoga Institute, where she served first as the President of the Board and later as the Executive Director.

From 2016 to 2019, Sharon worked as the Holistic Nurse Practice Specialist at the American Holistic Nurses Association. There, she

  • Developed the “Holistic Nurses’ Pain Relief Tools for Patients and Self-care,” with over 50,000 copies sold and translated into 4 languages
  • Coordinated an ongoing project to evaluate and publish evidence-based nonpharmacologic approaches to pain relief
  • Coordinated the “Integrative Healing Arts Program in Holistic Nursing” program on the east and west coasts and the midwest
  • Coordinated one-day self-care conferences for nurses at more than 20 different locations across the US
  • Advised nurses by phone and email about their holistic and entrepreneurial nursing practices in hospitals, hospices, private practice, and the community

From 2019 to 2021, Sharon was a health and wellness nurse coach at the Atma Integrative Medical Clinic in Lawrence, KS. There, she guided clients in using holistic approaches to mental health and served on the interdisciplinary team that provided the Bredesen protocol for reversing cognitive decline.

During COVID, her health coaching work slowed to almost zero. That gave her time to reflect on the state of the nursing profession and her journey as an entrepreneur. It occurred to her that there had never been a better time for nurses to step forward and serve the public directly through their own businesses. Sharon decided to gather and share the lessons she had learned in her entrepreneurial journey. That's when "New Directions for Nurses" was born.

After a year of testing, Sharon created LiberatedNurse.com, home of the Liberated Nurse Business Incubator program, Marketing Lab, and Business Advising services. She and her team show entrepreneurial nurses how to grow thriving, sustainable businesses they love.

The Liberated Nurse Entrepreneurs' breakthrough approach is built on the state Nurse Practice Acts, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the Holistic Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. It's unique system of personal support and step-by-step business education gently guides entrepreneurial nurses in starting ethical, sustainable businesses that improve the public’s and their own health and well-being without risking their RN license or financial security.

Seeing nurses transform their careers and lives through our LIberated Nurse Business Incubator program has been incredibly rewarding for Sharon and her team. We are thrilled to share the entreprenurial nursing journey with you!

LiberatedNurse.com is not just a business. It’s a movement to support nurses in claiming their power to practice at the top of their license.

We hope that hearing Sharon's story inspires you to explore new directions and discover your incredible potential to impact the world in unique, holistic ways.
